Since 2011, Open North has been on the leading edge of data and technology for the common good. Throughout this time, we have grown and evolved to respond to the rapidly changing landscape of cities, democratic governance, smart technology, software, and the global movement for more open, shared and accessible data. We have built digital tools, provided support to governments at all levels, both in Canada and abroad, built capacity within civic-focused and socially-minded organizations, and produced extensive applied research.
As we emerged from a period of internal reflection and strategy development, we recognized a need to bring intention to how we communicate our mission, how we work, and how we position Open North within the world. We are not changing who we are but honing in on our core essence, delivering services where there is the greatest need to generate the greatest impact. This is a time of growth for our organization – including in our visual style. Our new graphic identity is an expression of our mission, vision and identity, and we are proud to share it as we continue to expand our impact.
Open North remains a learning institution. As a values-based not-for-profit, we are committed to moving with advances in technology and encouraging bold next steps to our partners and clients as we learn and grow alongside them. At the same time, the urgency of today’s global challenges implores us to drive our stakes into the ground and confidently express our stance on the ideas and discourse within our field. The ubiquitous nature of technology in our lives and the tangible consequences of unethical uses of data require us to abandon neutrality. To this end, our new strategy aligns our actions and the services we offer with our values.
